A RESHUFFLE at Mutare City Rovers aims to revive its fortunes and a return to premier league football ahead of the 2026 Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League.
The club has appointed Brian Mukundu as its new head coach and will hold open player trials in the last week of January, signaling a potential overhaul.
The announcements, made on the club’s social media channels, place Mukundu at the centre of the project.
His technical team will include Assistant Coach Ackim Gwaendepi and Goalkeepers Coach Hope Bere.
In a move favouring operational continuity, the club has retained several off-pitch staff: Lyndon Kanyemba as Team Manager, Patson Marange as Kit Manager, Blessing Munyama as Medic and Romberai Madyiwa as Team Security.
This blend of new technical leadership and experienced support staff is meant to offer a fresh start without complete institutional disruption.
The club’s statement framed the appointments as a pleased announcement, but the real test will be on the pitch.
Concurrent with the staff confirmation is a call for new players. The club has invited “all interested players” to a trial training program running from Monday, 26 January, to Friday, 30 January.
These open trials suggest a desire to widen the recruitment net and tap into local talent ahead of the regional league season.
Following the trials, a comprehensive training schedule for the league season will be finalised.
The challenge for Mukundu and his team will be to integrate any new discoveries from the trials with existing squad members, forging a cohesive unit capable of improving the club’s standing.
