Jeys Marabini, a Zimbabwean troubadour, discovers that the best endorsement comes in uniform

“WHAT a humbling moment,” marvelled Jeys Marabini, a musician known for his nimble fusion of imbube and Afro-jazz.
The cause of his modesty? The Police Band of the Zimbabwe Republic Police had, without prior fanfare, performed his song “Ezinangeni” at a function at State House, Harare.
For an artist, few tributes rival having one’s work sung back by the very institution charged with keeping order.
The band did not merely play—they nailed it. “One time,” Marabini said, in the argot of the studio.
No lawyers, no royalties; just the quiet thrill of a melody that had marched into the corridors of power.
If music be the food of diplomacy, play on. And the police, it seems, have perfect pitch.
